Oh Friday's, how I love thee. Immensely. The reason why you ask? I only work till lunch on Friday (at my REAL job) and Tay is always off on Friday, until he starts school of course. So Friday's have become our fun day - similar to most couples Saturdays (Tater works weekends). This Friday was no exception.
We opted to buy some beer and crawfish, and then cook sausage and corn ourselves and sit at the house stuffing ourselves watching the weather roll in. Good day, good day indeed.
Sorry you had to sacrifice yourself little buddy, but Tay sure enjoyed you!
I don't eat crawfish. Yeah yeah I know. Let's see if you can follow my weird string of logic. When you eat a crawfish, you see the animal - and your brain processes that just a short while ago, this little guy was swimming along minding his own business. And now he's on my countertop. It's like when I eat steak or pork, I don't see a cow or pig in front of me; if I did, I probably wouldn't eat it - and I love steak and pork. The only time I eat crawfish is when they are fried and don't look all crawfishy.
Does that even make sense?
I just stalked Tay as he downed all the crawfish.
When the blue pot comes out, you know we mean business. This is our catch-all big a$$ pot. When your normal boiler just won't cut out, bring out ole blue. Ole blue has been with us since we started dating, and I wouldn't trade the ole gal for anything. Many a good meal has been prepared in that ole girl.
If you have crawfish, you have to have sausage. When you think you have enough sausage, cut up more. At least, that's what the Skelton's do :)
My throat is burning, my eyes are burning, and shortly my mouth will be. But it's all worth it!
Tony's - where would I be without you? Oh wait, that's right, bland sausage and corn :(
Nothing says EAT ME more than butter rolling off of corn. Yum.
Speaking of yum, I'm diving into a new adventure. I love Japanese food and there is this great little place right around the corner. The only problem, when Tay and I go (and I want to go every week) we spend at least $80. Too much on one meal, especially when I can get groceries for a few weeks for less than $80 - thank you coupons!
So, I've decided to make Japanese Yum-Yum sauce aka white sauce, shrimp sauce, or sakura sauce. No matter which way you slice it, I believe the end result will be deliciousness.
Say a little prayer that it is please?
Who knew that these common household ingredients could make the sauce?! Not me, but I do now, thank you Internet for the ease of finding a recipe that may finally stop me from wanting to spend $80 on one meal!
Do you want the recipe?
I guess it would be a bit rude of me to talk about it and then not post it huh?
Fine, fine, here ya go!
1 1/4 Cup Hellman's mayonnaise**
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
dash cayenne pepper (Tay added like 12 dashes - whoops!)
**And yes, you HAVE to use Hellman's. No excuses. If you want it to taste good and authentic, use Hellman's. No, Kroger's version of Hellman's is not the same. Use other Mayo's at your own risk and don't say I didn't warn you. Other Mayo's are made differently from Hellman's and will leave your sauce tasting to mayonnaise - y.
The finished product (mixed in a Kroger butter bowl - hey it saves money, don't judge).
The most important ingredient of the recipe - let it sit overnight in the fridge. It has to cool and all the deliciousness you mixed in has to meld together. The next day; when you start preparing your meal, take out the Yum Yum sauce and let come to room temp and BAM! You're set!
