We are gonna be parents!

Well puppy parents, but still, we are going to have another life form depending on us for food, shelter, love, and all that jazz. And I couldn't be more stoked.

Ever since Tay and I met (about 6 years ago) we always knew we were going to get a dog. But we, and by that I of course mean him, kept putting it off, saying the time wasn't right. Cost too much money. And any other excuse that he could muster.

So last week, I told Taylor that I was officially starting the dog search. He agreed. Thank the Lord!
First I went to Southern States Mastiff Rescue, the place where I have previously rescued a mastiff. And there were no dogs in the immediate area up for adoption. That was kind of a double edged sword - hooray for no dogs needing a home, bad for me because I got puppy fever! I then scoured the Internet and looked for mastiffs and/or great Danes up for adoption within a three hour radius. Once again, no dogs. This is when I became frustrated. Extremely frustrated. I am a big believer in adopting pets, but I am also a big Mastiff/Great Dane lover. So moving on to search for puppies to buy.

If you don't know this, registered mastiff's can go from $500-$2,000. Now, I don't know about y'all, but paying that much for a dog is crazy, especially when there are so many dogs out there looking for loving homes.  So I searched some more and came across a young lady in Conway, Ar, who has two adult mastiffs, who bred without her knowledge! She was planning on getting the female fixed in the near future, but found out she was pregnant instead. What a surprise!

I'm always iffy about buying anything on the Internet, especially responding to adds on random sites like Craigslist. So on Friday afternoon, I took off work early and Taylor picked me up and we were off on a 3 hour trek to Conway to meet our future puppy's mama and daddy.

Minnie - our future puppy's mama

Moose - our future puppy's daddy
Moose and Minnie are large dogs and most people have an aversion to dogs of that size. Well I have had two mastiff's previously, and they are the best breed out there. Hands down. They are big enough to scare people off, have a mean bark, but are the most gentle dogs imaginable. Minnie and Moose's human mama has a three year old and the dogs and kid get along famously.
I'm so excited to become a mama to our puppy. So in 6-8 weeks, we will be adding to our family :)
And I couldn't be more excited!
