House Hunting 101

So as you may have read (or maybe not), Tay and I are still in the process of house hunting. Boo. We are only house hunting to rent, not to buy, but still, we aren't overly picky, but a new home still eludes us. I mean our only requirements are a couple of bedrooms and a fence...apparently that is just way too much to ask for!

The above picture is of a house we found out in the country. Five minutes from Hernando, 15-20 from Memphis. Did I mention it was in the county? Hell yes. We were excited. We knew this was it. Knew it! We pull up to the house and the lot is huge, like 3 acres huge. This is getting better and better. We head to the door and find the lock and enter the code in order to enter the house. You walk in and this HUGE kitchen greets us. Granted, the house is from the 70s and needs a little updating, but we are both up for the challenge. A little sanding and painting and new hardware can work absolute wonders. We wonder around the house for probably 30 minutes. It has 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a dedicated office space. It's honestly too big for us, but it comes in $150 less than our max budget per month and it's in the country, so we were honestly considering it...........................................................................................

That is until I looked in the pantry. Apparently, the pantry was once used as a bathroom for that side of the home. How could I tell this you ask? Well, the shower stall was still in the room with shelves graciously added to it. Oh and the toilet had been removed, but there was an open sewer line - only covered with duct tape. No I'm not overly picky, and I'll apologize ahead of time, but that is just some nasty shit. Storing your food in a room where there is an open sewer. Needless to say, that house is no longer in the running in to be our home up here for the next couple of years.

You know whats scary? Looking on the Internet for houses to rent and seeing the home you currently occupy up for rent. SCARY. When Tay and I see houses for rent, we will pull up in the driveway, peek in windows and everything else. We didn't want anyone to do that our house (pot calling the kettle black, I know, leave me alone.) We politely contacted our landlord about the situation and they immediately took it off, thank the Lord. They also told us that since our lease legally expires on 12/31, we could rent month to month until we find our semi-permanent home. So that is about the only blessing we have received during this whole process, but boy are we ever thankful!
