Good News for the Skelton Household

We got some great news today! Taylor got into the University of Tennessee Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program!! Way to go Taylor. Wifey is super proud of you!

A nurse anesthetist is a nurse who specializes in the administration of anesthesia and in approximately 3 years my Tay will be one.

From the moment I met Taylor, we did the usual get to know you. I asked him what we wanted to be/do when he grew up. His answer has been unfaltering since the day I met him, in 2006 - I want to be a nurse anesthesist. And how he is one step closer to acheiving that goal.

He applied to various schools throughout the state of Tennessee and Alabama (Mississippi does not have a program.) One program flat out told him, no :( That school will remain nameless, but they are on the top of list, you know which one... :)  He was asked to be an alternate at another progam. Being an alternate meant paying money to hold a spot that he may or not get and also meant that the school could call him the day before the classes and tell him, 'you're in!' We were thrilled that he made the alternate list....(over 200 apply, 50 get interviews, and only 15-20 are selected for the program.) Just that deserved a celebration in itself.

Today, we got the phone call. He was in. Not an alternate, but actually on the "we want you" list at the University of Tennessee. Thrilled doesn't even begin to cover the excitement at our household right now.

We are excited for numerous reasons.
One: we get to stay in the area
Two: We now have a tentative plan
Three: His dreams are slowly becoming a reality

A few days after the news, a friend of mine ran into my mama and mama shared the good news with my friend. My friend then posted on my facebook wall, "congrats, so excited for y'all!"
Approximately 20 seconds after that post, my phone started ringing off the hook. Everyone thought that we were pregnant. Let me clear that up, we are NOT.

We want some babies, but we want him to start school, possibly finish and then do the parenthood thing. I think it would be too much on us for him to be a full time student ( the program does not allow him to work while in school), me being having a full time job and being a mom...We want to enjoy our kids and witness every milestone, ergo, we are postponing the kid thing.

Maybe a dog is in our future, an English mastiff :)
