Why it is Important to Meet Your Photographer Before the Wedding Day

Would you trust a stranger to capture one of the most important days of your life?
I hope you answered that with an honest, "no."

With the business of photography, we rely on strangers (and referrals) to keep our business going.
Without that, without you, we are nothing. Nothing other than nature photographers or pet photographers. We need clients. Real flesh and blood clients. With opinions and their own style.

I'm happy to say that myself (along with other photographers) tend to end up being friends with our clients, which is a magical and marvelous thing.

Reasons to Meet Your Photographer Before the Wedding:

1. Style. Your style as a bride may be completely different from your photographer's style. And there is nothing wrong with that, as long as it's conveyed to the photographer. I prefer to take more natural shots as opposed to overly posed shots. You may prefer every shot to be posed. It's something worth discussing on the front end.

2.  Chemistry. In photography, much like dating, there has to be chemistry. You can't fake it. You can try, but in the end, either the photographer will be displeased or the client will. Recently, I did my first boudoir shoot. The client and I were discussing poses and swapping Pinterest boards when we realized that we had pinned 80% of the same photos. That is chemistry folks.

3.  Comfort. Your wedding is an important day. Your paid big money for that dress and that venue, and you are and will continue to stress about the details, but shouldn't you be comfortable with your photographer and trust him/her to get the desired shots? If you hire a photographer that you are comfortable with and trust, everything will fall into place. Wedding photographers will turn into a jack-of-all-trades person on the wedding day - the coordinator, the time-keeper, the dress bustler, the person to ease the mind of the bride...the GO TO person.

Texts and emails don't do people justice. It is hard to convey tone in either. But in person, you can tell if it's genuine or fake. This is why I prefer to have some sort of session before the wedding. To especially meet the bride and possibly the groom and find out their wants/needs for their big day.
And then jump through hoops to make their wedding day dreams come true.
