I'll get to the point: WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!!!
And we are affectionately calling it Tater Tot or Tater Baby :)
Now, for some details...no, not those details.
Before Tay and I got married, we said that we would wait 5 years before trying to start a family. We thought that within 5 years of marriage Tay would be done with school and we would be semi settled into a routine. Well, 5 years came. Tay's close to finished with school, but I told him that he could not renege. We had a plan. A deal. It was hard enough to wait this long, you can not back out now!
A few months before our 5th anniversary, we had the talk. If you are married, you know this talk well..the "when do we think it's a good time to start trying for a family" talk. And of course, we all know it's not about our timing, we just like to think it is! So a decision was made. It was time.
Y'all, I've never taken a pregnancy test before. Seriously, I'm 30 and have a general idea of how they work, but have never taken one. Nor did I realize how expensive they are! If we were trying to have a family and needing to take multiple tests (not to mention ovulation test) all of that would break the bank before those two little lines appeared.
If you know me, you know that I'm frugal. I'm not cheap, but I think before I spend my money. I work too hard to just throw it away on a $30 pregnancy test - just one!! So I got wise, I enlisted the help of my favorite search engine (Google) and my favorite online shopping site (Amazon).
That's when I was introduced to Wondfo Pregnancy tests. They are cheap test strips that are 90% accurate...I got 30 of them $30 - score!
And now, for the personal stuff. I've never been late a day in my life. Ever. My body is a dependable 25 day clock. I woke up on day 25 feeling fine, kind of wondering when it would happen. Come lunch time, nothing. That's when my brain started with the whole 'you could totally be pregnant' thing. So, I got one of those cheap little test strips and tried it out. I then walked outside with my dog and played with him while I drank some coffee. I later realized I forgot about the test, knowing it was negative. When I looked at it, it was not negative. There was another line in the "Girl you are knocked up" column. I freaked out. And not in the maternal, I'm going to be mother, oh how wonderful way, but more in the what in the hell have we done way?! Then I cried. And freaked out. And freaked out some more. Then I took two more cheap tests.
Then it slowly started to sink in. All while this was going on, Tay was at the hospital because he was on call. I decided I needed a simple fun way to tell him that we were having a baby.
So I hopped in the car and went to Target. I got a card, another more fancy pregnancy test, and a little onesie. Then I typed a little note.
While trying to buy these items from Target, the saleslady kept asking if I wanted the Target red card. I kept telling her no thank you, no thank you, I'm kind of in a hurry here, if you can't tell. Please just ring me up and let's get this transaction over with.
Crappy iPhone picture. My brain didn't care about photo quality at the time. |
When Tay got home from his rotation, I was nonchalantly folding clothes, and I asked him to take his scrubs into the office. He walked in and said what is this? He then read the note and looked at me, "Seriously?"
Yes dear, seriously.
We then sat and stared at each other and the tests over and over. It was surreal.
I then told Tay, "Looked I'm just as freaked out right now, it's ok."
"OK good! I was afraid that if I was freaked out and you weren't, you'd be mad!"
Trust me honey, growing a human is a strange thing. It's so difficult to wrap your head around it.
And then, once your head is wrapped around the idea, it's all you think about. Googling things constantly, checking out Pinterest, and of course, going over insurance policies and choosing a doctor.
Then you have to tell people. Like your parents and siblings and your boss. And then announce it to the world. We kept our announcement simple and sweet; just like us!

More updates to come.
How precious is this!
