If you haven't heard of Lensbaby yet, allow me to enlighten you. These little things are bad ass, no other way to put it. To check out their website and all their amazing other lenses, you need to click here: http://lensbaby.com/
I decided on the Spark based on two things. I hate to waste money on an expensive lens and it's something I've never used before; so I decided upon their cheapest option; for less than $100.
In order to use the Spark, you must know how to use manual mode.
And if you don't know how to use manual mode, contact me and I'll set you up: and yeah, that was me totally plugging my photography business, I have no shame.
To use the lens is actually pretty simple. Attach it to your camera. Turn your dial to manual mode. Instead of zooming in/out, all you do is squeeze, and you'll get a small sweet spot of focus with everything nice and blurry. I practiced on Tay and fat dog yesterday, neither one was amused. The Spark is a 50mm fixed lens, which means that the focal point is the same, it DOES NOT zoom, in order to zoom in/out, you have to move your body. I'm still practicing and learning to use it, but am praying that I get a chance to use it at this weekends wedding!
Either way, it's a super fun and lightweight hobby lens that I'm hoping to keep in my arsenal for years to come. And I may even upgrade to some more of their products...hint hint family members, hint hint!
